A285 Gr.A steel plate is a medium-to-low tensile strength carbon steel plate used in pressure vessels according to American standards. It is widely used in key industries such as petrochemicals, power plants, and boilers.
 
A285 Gr.A steel plate, with its balanced mechanical properties, good processing performance and economy, has become the core material for manufacturing medium and low pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks and other equipment.
 
Chemical Composition of A285 Gr.A Steel Plate:
Carbon (C): Content not exceeding 0.17%, ensuring weldability and toughness.
Manganese (Mn): Content ≤0.90%, improving strength and hardenability.
Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): Content both ≤0.025%, reducing the risk of cold brittleness and hot cracking.
Silicon (Si): Content ≤0.15%, enhancing oxidation resistance.
 
Mechanical Properties of A285 Gr.A Steel Plate:
Yield Strength: ≥165 MPa, outstanding resistance to plastic deformation.
Tensile Strength: 310-450 MPa, suitable for medium and low pressure vessels.
Elongation: ≥27% at a gauge length of 200 mm, ≥30% at a gauge length of 50 mm, excellent plasticity.
Impact Toughness: Impact energy at room temperature ≥600 kJ/m² to 800 kJ/m², suitable for complex working conditions.
 
A285 Gr.A Steel Production Process and Delivery Condition:
 
The production process of A285 Gr.A steel plates strictly follows ASME/ASTM A285/A285M standards. The core processes include:
Smelting: Electric furnace or converter refining with ladle refining and vacuum degassing are used to ensure the purity of the molten steel.
Rolling: Hot rolling is the primary method. Thick plates require normalizing treatment to refine the grain size and improve toughness.
Delivery Condition: Default is hot-rolled or controlled-rolled. Orders can also be placed in normalized, stress-relieved, or normalized and stress-relieved condition.
 
Applications of A285 Gr.A steel plates:
Pressure vessels: Used in the manufacture of storage tanks, reactors, heat exchangers, separators, and other equipment, such as liquefied gas tanks and nuclear reactor pressure vessels.
 
Energy equipment: A key material for boiler drums, water-cooled walls, superheaters, and other components, ensuring the safe operation of boilers under high temperature and high pressure environments.
 
Oil and gas engineering: Used in the manufacture of gas pipelines, oil and gas storage tanks, and other equipment adapted to harsh environments.
 
Other fields: Marine boilers, non-load-bearing components for bridges, building steel structures (such as factory frames), and engineering machinery bases.
