Generally, in steelmaking process, manganese is good deoxidizer and desulfurizing agent. Generally, steel contains manganese 0.30 - 0.50%. Add manganese more than 0.70% to carbon steel, then the carbon steel is manganese steel, there is enough toughness, higher strength and hardness. Manganese can increase the steel hardenability, improve steel hot processing properties, such as 16Mn steel. The steel which contains manganese 11－14% has high abrasion resistance, is used to shovel, ball mill lining plate. Manganese content increasing weakens steel corrosion resistance, reduces the welding performance.
