AISI 4140 High Tensile Steel bar

AISI 4140 high tensile steel bar is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel. The chromium content provides good hardness penetration, and the molybdenum content ensures uniform hardness and high strength. AISI 4140 chrome-molybdenum steel can be oil hardened to a relatively high level of hardness. The desirable properties of the AISI 4140 high tensile steel bar include superior toughness, good ductility and good wear resistance in the quenched and tempered condition.
Size of AISI 4140 high tensile steel bar:
Rounds: 8 mm to 690 mm Diameter
Hexagons: 19.05 mm to 65 mm A/F
Hollow Bar: 63 mm to 250 mm OD
Square: 32 mm to 130 mm
Pre hardened and tempered AISI 4140 high tensile steel bar can be further surface hardened by flame or induction hardening and by nitride.
AISI 4140 high tensile steel bar can be further surface hardened by either the flame or induction hardening methods resulting in a case hardness in excess of Rc50. Parts should be heated as quickly as possible to the austenitic temperature range (840 C - 870 C) and "required case depth followed by an immediate oil or water quench, depending upon hardness required, work piece" size/shape and quenching arrangements.
